Barrow Neurological Institute and Fourier Intelligence Renew Partnership

Barrow Neurological Institute MoU

Barrow Neurological Institute and Fourier Intelligence to continue their collaboration in advancing rehabilitation technology

ARIZONA, January 10, 2022 In light of their initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed in 2019, Barrow Neurological Institute and Fourier Intelligence have decided to continue their collaboration in advancing rehabilitation technology through signing a new MoU.

The signing ceremony was held virtually on the 10th of January 2022 to commemorate the collaboration between both parties. The MoU signing ceremony was led by Trent Maruyama, Program Manager for Rehabilitation Technology of Barrow Neurological Institute and Zen Koh, Co-Founder and Global Hub CEO of Fourier Intelligence. Also present to witness the virtual signing ceremony were Fourier Intelligence’s General Manager, Mr Owen Teoh, Senior Manager for Clinical Application and Research, Ms Sarah Lim, Clinical Consultants for Oceania and North America, Ms Taya Hamilton and Ms Daniela Mattos.

This MoU renewal will further strengthen the current cooperation and relationship between both parties to continue working closely together in this and other future research. “This MoU builds on an already strong relationship with Barrow Neurological Institute,” said Zen Koh. “We look forward to continue providing them with our assistance in their research through our intelligent robotic rehabilitation devices as well as other additional support.”

Zen Koh also mentioned that he believes that the similar ambitions between Fourier Intelligence and Barrow Neurological Institute contributes to the success of this collaboration. “Both Fourier and Barrow Neurological Institute care greatly about rehabilitation and aspire to advance rehabilitation technology. We have been working closely with them since 2019 and we have seen tremendous progress in the clinical application area. We are truly grateful for this understanding.”

Trent Maruyama also gave his comments when asked about his thoughts and opinions of signing the MoU. “We have had nothing but very positive results throughout the previous collaboration and I am very excited to achieve more in the upcoming years to further advance the science and technology in rehabilitation.”, said Trent.

“The main thing we are trying to achieve from this new collaboration is to push the limitation of rehabilitation robotics. Combining Fourier’s science and engineering capabilities with the clinical skillset from Barrow Neurological Institute, we believe that it is the perfect match to push the boundaries in bringing rehabilitation robotics to the next level.”, added Trent.

Barrow Neurological Institute, the world’s largest neurological research institution and one of the best neurosurgical training centres in the United States, are currently conducting research with Arizona State University to evaluate the efficacy of robotics and conventional therapy in the rehabilitation of acute stroke patients using a couple of Fourier Intelligence’s ArmMotus™ M2 Gen.
