Shanghai Fourier Intelligence is set to launch its next-generation robot aimed at assisting lower limb rehab on January 21 in the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai.

The model, an exoskeleton known as Fourier X2, is the new addition to the company’s growing product line, currently consisting of three models including X1, M1 and M2 that cater to the recovery of upper and lower limbs.

Designed to help stroke victims and patients suffering from bone fractures and other diseases impairing their mobility, Fourier X2 can be worn like a suit and support users whenever they walk.

Acquiring new design elements based on ergonomics and human biology, the X2 model is an updated version of X1, which made its debut in 2017. X2 is equipped with a self-developed active motion control module that uses enhanced algorithms to better handle the adjustment of users’ gait and movement in real-time.

“New ergonomic designs make sure X2 remains sturdy despite a much smaller weight,” says Alex Gu, chief executive of Fourier Intelligence. “X2 is a huge improvement to X1 in appearance, function and technological prowess.”

At the January 21 launch, when distributors from 20 countries and regions will be in attendance, Fourier will also unveil an Android-like open platform called Fourier Exoskeleton & Robotics Open Platform System (EXOPS), as part of its collaboration with National Instruments and the University of Melbourne, where it has a joint research lab.

According to Gu, the intention of setting up this platform is to provide a chance to anyone aspiring to contribute to the research and development of robotics technology.

Developers from universities, institutes and clinical centers are all welcome to bring their expertise in exoskeleton to bear on this platform and create their own products and solutions.

“We are hopeful that by being open to all, this (platform) can promote creativity and innovation,” he says.

Founded in 2015, Fourier is a pioneer and leader in the category of rehab robotics, having shipped its products to countries including the United States, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Columbia through a global network of distributors.

Its flagship exoskeleton X1 was on display when China’s president Xi Jinping toured an exhibition hall housing high-tech gadgets and gizmos from firms in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in November.

Fourier Intelligence is an innovative global technology company focusing on developing, manufacturing and marketing of rehabilitation robotics and exoskeleton. The company is committed to making life easier for overworked therapists by cutting their workload since much of their treatment is person to person. Fourier’s ultimate goal is to enhance the efficiency of therapy for stroke victims and other patients and help to fill the shortfall of qualified therapists in China and beyond.
